vtwonen 'weer verliefd op je huis'

Sunday, March 1, 2026

When Maartje and Bas moved into their home, they knew one thing for sure: the location was perfect, but the feeling wasn’t there yet. They live in a beautiful rural setting, close to family, together with their sons. Inside, however, the house still feels too much like a former holiday rental. The large, open space lacks cohesion, personality and, above all, warmth.

Maartje dreams of colour, bold patterns and a home that reflects her energy. Bas, on the other hand, envisions a robust Scandinavian log cabin, with natural materials and a calm, understated base. For stylist Marianne, this contrast isn’t a problem but the starting point. She sees opportunities to bring colour and tranquillity together and transform the separate elements into one cosy family home.

Marianne starts with the foundation of the living room. The existing green wooden slat wall has strongly influenced the interior, but it also locks the space into a single mood. Instead of adding more green, she opts for refinement and tactility. For the walls, she chooses our wallpaper with a herringbone structure in a grasscloth look from the Calm Crafted collection. The natural material and subtle pattern perfectly complement Bas’s love for a robust Scandinavian feel, while the texture and warmth create the freedom for Maartje to add colour and character.

The result is a living room that no longer feels like a compromise, but like a thoughtful blend of two living styles. The wallpaper forms a warm, natural backdrop where colour and functionality come together. Exactly what was needed to truly fall in love with their home again.
